Written by Reed Sutman on Mar 03, 2023I sent Marcy Rood a questionnaire prior the the 2022 election. Here are her answers:
In your words, what does the County Board do?
The County Board is responsible for many programs and departments that have a major impact on local life - we oversee the construction and maintenance of county bridges and roads; oversee the Macon County Health Department and the Sheriff’s Office; the County Treasurer who collects property taxes; and the County Clerk who handles elections and vital records. Chances are that you interact more frequently with the county than with the city!
Broadly speaking, why are you running for office this year?
I have found this area to be a wonderful community full of amazing people and great things, and I want to continue to do my part to make sure the county government is responsive to the needs of the community.
What are your 3 biggest priorities for the County Board?
I would like to form a multi-agency coalition to seek out grant funding to work on violence in our community, continue to support bringing good opportunities and good paying jobs to our community, and make sure women’s interests are well represented on a County Board made up of mostly men.
What do you think are the 3 biggest priorities for voters on the political left?
When it comes to local politics, there should not be separate political priorities by party. We should all be working together for the common good of our community and with a shared vision to be fiscally responsible, use our tax dollars wisely, and make sure we are responsive to the needs of our residents.
What policy proposals or legislation have you written or are planning to write?
As I said before, I would really like to get a multi-agency coalition together to work on finding grant money to support efforts to decrease violence in our community by supporting both community programs and law enforcement. Together we can do more than we can do separately. It impacts everyone. Let’s also make sure that available federal and state tax dollars find their way to Macon County and aren’t spent elsewhere. As an example, I was able to bring state and federal funding to Decatur to upgrade the 22nd St. railroad crossing.
Is there anything else you'd like to add regarding your political Platform?
We have a special community full of wonderful people. I’d welcome the opportunity to continue to serve them.
