Macon County, Illinois residents will vote in the Primaries on March 19th, 2024 and in the General Election on November 5th, 2024.

The only local seats in contention are for Coroner, which has three Republican candidates and one Democrat candidate.
After the March 19th Primaries, either local party may slate candidates for vacancies - i.e. seats the party didn't run for in the Primaries.
Macon County Democrats slated several candidates in 2022.
There will also be state and federal races on your ballot.

County Auditor
The race for Macon County's Auditor has only one candidate for 2024, a Republican named Cheryl Wise.
The Macon County Auditor is the "financial arm of the county," according to Carol Reed, the current elected auditor who is retiring after this year's election. She manages financial reporting, payroll, health insurance, and grants.
In the 2023 Municipal Election, there was a referendum to eliminate the office of Macon County Auditor.
The referendum was placed on the ballot by the Republican-majority Macon County Board, and was opposed by Macon County Democrat Chair Karl Coleman.
Voters declined to eliminate the Macon County auditor position.
Note: Macon County Democrats have the opportunity to slate an Auditor candidate after the March 19th Primaries.
Circuit Clerk
The race for Macon County's Circuit Clerk has only one candidate for 2024, a Republican incumbent named Sherry A. Doty.

County Coroner
The race for Macon County's Coroner has four candidates for 2024.
Three Republicans will face-off in the March 19th Primaries. A single Democrat is running.
In the November 5th General Election, voters will choose between one Republican candidate (whomever wins the primaries) and the lone Democrat candidate.
The current Coroner, Michael Day, is not running for re-election.

County Board
The race for the Macon County Board has no competition this year, unless either party chooses to slate candidates to vacancies after the March 19th Primaries.
There are five County Board Districts, and each voter will vote for one candidate within their district, as there is only one vacancy for each County Board District this year.
District 1 has one Democrat candidate. Districts 2-5 each have one Republican candidate.
Prior to redistricting in 2021, there were 7 County Board Districts. The redistricting was contentious, and the Republican-proposed maps were approved by the majority-Republican Macon County Board, with opposition from Democrat Board Members.
