Many candidates participate in the Primary election. Primaries involve voting amongst your own political party to pick which candidates will run for a particular office or in a particular district. Slated candidates are added to the ballot after the primary to fill out the ballot.
For example, each County Board District has 3 positions up for election this year (2022), so each party runs up to 3 candidates in the November election. County Board District 5 had four Republican candidates and one Democratic candidate for the June 28th Primaries. Hubert W Murray (R) lost in the Primaries, so the other three Republican candidates proceed. Democrats still had two vacancies, so could have slated up to two more candidates. Democrats did slate one new candidate for District 5, named Tony Wilkins.
The due date for slating county candidates was Monday July 25th, 2022.
Update: While Macon County Democrats slated the below candidates, several did not appear on the ballot due to challenges.

- County Treasurer (D): Melverta Wilkins
