Jalynn Walker withdraws from School Board Race

Original Report written by Reed Sutman on . Updated .

Jalynn Walker believes DPS 61 "needs accountability!" and has withdrawn from the race because she does not feel she will be able to "put her best foot forward" and be one of those accountable members, due to unforeseen circumstances at this time.

Jalynn says her time is split between focusing on her kids, increased duties at her job as a funeral director, and her volunteer service as Director of Youth With A Postive Direction, a violence prevention & intervention program.

In addition, she is vice president of Decatur Show Choir Complex, a diverse group of young people, mostly DPS 61 students, who participate in singing and dancing competitions nationwide. DSCC is funded through parents and supporters. She is very passionate about this organization and ensuring all children have access to the arts.

Jalynn Walker endorses Will Wetzel and Jacob Jenkins for School Board.

Jalynn still believes she would make a good board member because of her experiences as a former teaching assistant in District 61, she is a mother of a current DPS61 student, and is a DPS61 alumni. She still believes she is a good advocate for students, teachers and parents.

She says she will continue to be active in the community, and looks forward to further character development at her job. She noted the possibility of running again when her personal obligations allow her more time to focus on the issues of the district.

Jalynn says "I’m not going anywhere, I am still an advocate of students, families and the district as a whole.”
